In our observance of Saint Lucia’s 45th Anniversary of Independence, team LUCELEC extends congratulations to our Customer Care Engineer Allison Marquis and former Managing Director Trevor Louisy on their appointment to the Order of Saint Lucia. Mr. Marquis will receive The Saint Lucia Medal of Merit (Gold) “for long and meritorious service in the field of Arts (Music)” and, Mr. Louisy, The Saint Lucia Medal of Honour (Gold) for “eminent service rendered in the field of National Development (Energy Sector) and Community Service, when the Investiture Ceremony is held on Sunday, March 17.
Our Managing Director Gilroy Pultie says these honours are truly well-deserved and reflect the dedicated service both individuals have rendered to Saint Lucia in their respective fields. “Congratulations to two outstanding sons of the soil. As we celebrate 45 years of independence, we applaud Allison Marquis for his unwavering dedication, passion and invaluable contributions to the field of music. To my predecessor, Trevor Louisy, his award is certainly well deserved for his dedication spanning almost four decades in which he played a crucial role in bringing LUCELEC to where it is today; seamlessly taking over from another stalwart, Bernard Theobalds, driven by a deep commitment to our Vision, ‘To be the Energy that powers our nation’s success.”
The announcement of the appointments on Independence Day marked the culmination of LUCELEC's support for major activities on the national calendar, the national baton relay and three sporting competitions – a national tennis tournament, a road relay and an alternative sports showcase.

We continued our sponsorship support of the national baton relay that commenced on Sunday, January 28, supporting the initiative aimed at "showcasing the people of Saint Lucia, prominent landmarks, and unique characteristics". We once again partnered with the National Tennis Association, organizers of the Saint Lucia National Independence Tennis Tournament held from February 16 to 19 at the National Tennis Centre. Over fifty (50) athletes competed in four (4) categories - Under 10, Under 12, Under 16 and an Open Division.
LUCELEC also provided infrastructural support to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports for its alternative sports event, 758 Independence Drags. Over forty (40) drivers from eight (8) countries competed in the eight categories. The event was held at The Base in Vieux-Fort from February 24 to 25 and attracted thousands of supporters to witness this growing sport in the country. LUCELEC provision of lighting ensured participants and spectators alike were powered in a competitive and safe environment.
According to Mr. Pultie, “Throughout our island’s history, LUCELEC has been a longstanding partner in development, powering environmental sustainability, health, education, science and technology, arts and culture, sports, youth development, religious and numerous charitable organizations. Our goal continues to be, to positively touch every aspect of Saint Lucian life. This is a proud and important part of our legacy. We thank the people of Saint Lucia for bringing us into your homes and businesses and allowing us to be part of the Saint Lucia story.”
Saint Lucia observed Independence 45 under the theme, “Douvan Ansanm: Building a Nation through Unity, Resilience and Creativity” on February 22.
