They were rearing to go on Day 1. Following the selection of team members and names for groups in what, at some points felt like a sports team draft, the walkers from the Sans Souci office were fired up and ready to hit the trail! They were part of the fifty team members who have, so far, signed up for the HR Department Wellness Challenge.
The Programme launched on June 1 and promotes healthy nutrition and physical activity with stress management and regular doctor checkups. Its aim is to ensure team members are healthy and strong. It is also an opportunity to know your health status, explore fun ways to eat healthier and improve our level of physical fitness.
The programme has a number of components. For the first challenge, teams of 3-5 were expected to walk three miles a day for one full week. Upon completion, each participant would earn 125 points and a reward of a fit band. Ten groups signed up for the challenge – 2 from CDS, 3 from Vieux-Fort and 5 from Admin in Sans Souci.
With completion of each part of the challenge, participants earn points for a number of rewards. These are divided into 500 and 1000 points incentives. For participants who earn 500 points, the reward choices include a gym bag, Bluetooth headphones and EC$50 Massy Stores voucher. The 1,000 point champions can choose between a full body massage, 2 months of paid gym membership or a US$50 Amazon gift card.
If you haven’t signed up for the challenge yet, don’t worry there is still plenty of time and activities left. From attending a mini local natural organic products showcase to be held at each company location to participating in National wellness campaigns for Walk for the Cure and the Moonlight Walk for Diabetes.
And if walking or joining a gym is not your cup of tea, you can sign up for the “Hold It for a minute” challenge where for one week, you stretch for one minute at work. A video has to be submitted as proof of participation to earn 100 points and a yoga mat.
If you want to do even less, you can complete the quarterly onsite health screening for a chance to earn 50 points.
The program is completely voluntary and signing up is a breeze. Just contact Kedia at 4513 or any other member of the HR Department. Everyday choices we make can help us live healthier and happier lives, both at work and at home so sign up and #LetsGetMoving.
