We decided to give our Meteorologist a second chance and on Thursday night, we did enjoy great weather. All games were played successfully at the Marigot court and Match results of night two are attached.
Game 1: TnD Pandemic vs Triple W Old Navy
Like most teams in the tournament to date, both teams came to their first game short of players and for spectators, this clash might be a chance to see two well rounded teams square off during the early stages of the tournament.
Triple W Old Navy won the toss and decided to bowl first. Quality and discipline bowling was on display as TnD Pandemic found it difficult to score boundaries. Due to having only 5 players on the night, they were all out in the 8th over scoring 81 runs.
The game was evenly poised for much of the second innings where wickets fell strategically. Triple W with two more players than their rivals, held their nerve to win it at the end of the 7th over.
Sadly, the Pandemic did not reach the doors of Triple W Old Navy (proper hand washing techniques were witnessed before this game… that explains it!)
Man of the Match: Kurtson Eugene 33 runs not out
Game 2: TnD Shockers vs TnD Lightning Strikers
A perfect example of Veterans vs the youth; a team was schooled, but who? The Lightning Strikers won the toss and decided to bat first.
Last year’s tournament top scorer Cuthbert Edward started his innings where he left off with some scathing cutlass shots, unfortunately one swing too hastily meant he fell victim to out of the playing area rule.
The Shockers improved on their bowling from their previous game and prevented their neighbours from scoring at will.
Another veteran Thomas Dalson, came in during the last two overs and played a few classical shots to give the Lightning Strikers a par total of 79 runs in their allotted 10 overs.
Kevin Francois was out for a golden duck (Easter egg if you ask me), first ball of the TnD Shockers Innings (what a Shocker!). Sherick Anthony fell soon after without having an impact on the game this time around.
A fighting partnership between Nerie Joseph and Kirk Aroudel was not enough as the Shockers were all out for 58 runs in 7 overs.
In a war between lightning strikes and a shock… TnD Lightning Strikers won by 21 runs.
Curthbert Edward won man of the match for his two key wickets and 18 runs with the bat.
Game 3: Inventory Stingers vs Generation Power House
We saved the best game for the last on the night. These teams each had their opening games washed out due to rain and are eager to show their cricketing prowess in this year’s tournament. Generation Power House won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Smeadly Augustin was bowled in the first over for a golden duck (its duck season, happy hunting people). Lucius Prospere was out first ball in the second over leaving the Stingers in a position of bother. Sixty-four run partnership between Chad St Clair and Qwaine Henry helped Inventory Stingers to the highest total of the tournament thus far of 103 for 5 in their 10 overs.
Batting second, there was little power to generate at Marigot for the Power House as four batsmen fell cheaply. The last pair of batsmen for Generation refused to allow inventory to run away with this game as they hustled and bustled. At the end of 5 overs, Generation were 32 for the loss of 4 wickets. At the half way stage, the game appeared to have been safely in the Stingers grasp.
Aided by a myriad of wides and precise gap picking, the supporters and players from Generation Power House finally had something to cheer about.
The once whimsical attitude of Inventory Stingers quickly turned into annoyance as Generation Power House needed 16 runs off the last over. Debutant Delwin Mathurin was entrusted with the last over, his facial expression said it all (Lord! Why me?).
Shon Francois has been batting from the first ball of Generation Power house Innings. A great partnership of fifty plus runs thus far with Khalil Charles have pushed Generation closer to the mammoth target set by Inventory. Both batsmen were panting heavily; a sign of fatigue and this might go against them.
Shon Francois to face the last over on strike; the first ball was hit for 6 runs! 10 runs needed from 5 balls… under pressure Delwin Mathurin bowled two consecutive wides…
Wait, wait a minute…
The LUCELEC Club invites everyone to the Marigot court on Match nights to witness the most exciting Inter Department Court Cricket you can find anywhere else. A stocked bar awaits you with some finger licking foods. Please stay tuned for more fixtures coming out on a weekly basis; full fixtures are beyond our beyond our control for the interim.
Now back to the game…
Due to the wides, 6 runs were needed from 5 balls. Here comes Delwin Mathurin in to bowl to Shon Francois….
What a game, what a win… all the way to the last over. Inventory Stingers did not win, Shon Francois Smashed that ball out of the playing area for 6 runs to some vacant real estate somewhere to claim a memorial win for Generation Power House.
The atmosphere at Marigot felt like the ST Lucia Stars had just won the CPL; everyone was celebrating well apart from Inventory Stingers for obvious reasons.
Shon Francois was judged man of the match for his match winning knock of 43 runs not out and two wickets.
