Inter-Department Court Cricket 2024 - Match Day 3 Results

Wow! What an evening of Cricket. The LUCELEC Club is mulling an introduction of an entrance fee to the court due to the excitement, the emotions and the quality of the games. We did promise uncontrollable laughter and supporters dug into the merriment from the first ball. We encourage you to come to the Marigot Court to witness the activity first hand; a stocked bar coupled with friendly club members await you.

Game 1: Triple W Old Navy vs Inventory Stingers

After the first round of games, many viewed Triple W Old Navy as the favourites to win this year’s tournament due to their tight bowling and strong batting line up. Inventory Stingers are looking to restore some pride after their disappointing last game.

Inventory Stingers won the toss and decided to bat first.

Old Navy continued with their impressive tight bowling, giving little extras to their opponents. Wickets fell regularly for the Stingers pegging them from any real momentum, but a well fought partnership between captain Lucius Prospere and Delwin Mathurin gave the Stingers and impressive 91 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 10 overs.

Triple W Old Navy began their innings on a high, scoring 23 runs from the first two overs. A brilliant run out of the dangerous Terry Solomon (run out again!) in the third over gave the Stingers some belief. At the end of the fourth over, Old Navy were 44 runs for the lost of 2 wickets; clearly ahead based on run rate.

Chad “Chadi Boy” St Clair came in to bowl the fifth over with some juicy lollipops (where he get that from) which Triple W could not resist the temptation by hitting the balls out of the playing area. Chad St Clair claimed three wickets in his over, bowling out Triple W Old Navy for 59 runs.

Inventory Stingers won by 23 runs. Chad St Clair was voted man of the match

Game 2: Customer Service Kool and the Gang vs TnD Pandemic

Customer Service won the toss and decided to bat first

Nigel Leonce was out first ball of the game (duck season continues), TnD showed no remorse to their opponents as most women were run out trying desperately to complete a run (poor jab). Despite a fighting effort from Kurtly Estava (25 runs), Customer Service Kool and The Gang were all out for 37 runs in 5.5 overs.

Openers Ricky Hippolyte and Silus Mathurin made light work of the Gang’s total, arriving at their target in 2.4 overs without losing any wickets.

The Pandemic, reminiscent of Covid 19, took over Customer Service in record time (the gang did not mask up, so they paid the price)

Man of the match went to Ricky Hippolyte for his 15 runs not out and 1 wicket

Game 3: Generation Power House vs System Control

We prognosticate many cliches during this tournament and this final game of the night was living proof; “we saved the best for last.”

Records were both set and broken (not musical records to clear the air) on what many spectators criticized as a contentious game of possible match fixing. Match Fixing carries a charge of team expulsion from the tournament if any individual(s) is found guilty of such an atrocious offence (rule 101).

System Control won the toss and decided to bat first

For this game, spectators began their carnival season with a song of their own “WIDE”. Catchy song to say the least; the Marigot Court felt like a choir practice session as this new song became an instant hit (this song should be on sportify in the morning).

Andrew Cherubin was the only batsman from System Control to reach double figures he had a score of 42 runs before being run out. At the end of their 10 overs, System Control Crushers scored the highest team total to date of 126 runs.

Where did the runs come from? Good question, remember our little carnival song…

Generation Power House bowled a total of 32 wides; a new record by any team in this competition. For this tournament, every wide bowled, the batting team gets 2 runs. This was a total of 64 runs which helped The Crushers to their record total of 126 runs.

Last year Wayide Thomas held the record for most wides in an over (10). This year; Emma Edgar from Generation was adamant on leaving her mark on the tournament, she bowled a total of 16 wides in one over… new record! (anyone who challenges this record deserves nothing but licks). Moment of silence for Emma, she tried; I mean she really tried.

Shon Francois and Emma Edgar came out to bat for the Generation Power House, needing a record run chase for victory.

9 runs were conceded from the first over. When a song is popular, Lucians love to use, abuse and overuse it; and LUCELEC’s road match song “WIDE” was sung by spectators and players alike at the start of the second over.

At the end of over number 4 the score was 51 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, in System Control’s favour. Jayarr Johnny who earlier enjoyed Emma’s bowling came in to bowl the 5th over for the Crushers. With every delivery he bowled, we can hear our road march song being sung with gusto. Jayarr Johnny bowled a total of 13 wides in his first over restoring hope to a once hopeless Power House. At the end of over number 5 the score was 81 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. 46 runs were needed from the next 5 overs for Generation Power House.

Aided by a plethora of wides, Generation Power House achieved their target in 9 overs for the loss of 4 wickets; another record.

Generation Power House Crushed the Crushers physically, emotionally, mentally and psychologically (did I miss any more ally’s).

Lance Simon was voted man of the match for his 29 runs not out.
