Inter-Department Court Cricket 2024 - Match Day 6 Results

Welcome to another evening of games, to date no team has qualified and after some eye-opening results from last evening (Tuesday March 12), spectators came in their droves for a fun filled night.

Game 1 System Control Crushers vs Triple W Old Navy

System Control won the toss and decided to bat first.

For the first time in this year’s tournament, the Crushers looked menacing scoring 31 runs without loss after 3 overs. In the fourth over, Landy Wallace continued his trend, running out his batting partners (sell out); Lucius Marc was run out despite looking in great shape (wahhh).

Triple W impressed with their bowling as System Control were bowled out in 7.1 overs for 64 runs. Landy Wallace top scored with 18 runs.

In reply, Triple W Old Navy raced to their total in 5.2 overs without the loss of a wicket. For the fourth time, System Control Crushers were crushed, left to moan and rooted bottom of the standings table.

Kurtson Eugene was the Man of the Match for his 27 runs not out and one wicket.

Game 2 TnD Lightning Strikers vs TnD Pandemic

Both teams need a win to catapult their points tally for a chance of qualification. This mouth-watering clash will boil down to who wants it more.

TnD Lightning Strikers won the toss and decided to bowl first.

It was a horror display from the Pandemic, a slow start coupled with two fishy run outs dried up their source of runs. At the end of the second over the score was 7 runs. Silus Mathurin from the Pandemic, decided to test his defensive skills (aa another Jimmy Adams) in this game; a dreadful decision which saw a new record of two maiden overs in one innings.

A quick cameo of 19 runs from Fabian Raymond did not do any justice for the Pandemic as they only mustered 76 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 10 overs. Silus Mathurin was not out from ball one, scoring a disappointing 27 runs from some 40 balls.

Impressive bowling from three Lightning Strikers bowlers;

  • Marlence Sammy 2 overs for 8 runs
  • Tomy Adolph 2 overs for 7 runs and 1 wicket
  • Johan Stephen 1 over for 4 runs

It was the Lightning Strikers time at the crease, Marlence Sammy was run out in the first over. Desperately trying to make amends, over number 2 saw Silus Mathurin bowling a brilliant over for the Pandemic conceding 1 run. It was a watchful start from the Strikers and at the end of the third over the score was 16 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

Extremely tight bowling from the Pandemic meant there were no extras leading up to the 6th over, this small total seemed quite challenging for the Lightning Strikers who had just lost their second wicket.

The game was evenly poised at the end of the ninth over, the score was 71 runs and The Lightning Strikers had lost yet another wicket.

6 runs were needed from the last over being bowled by Ricky Hippolyte and this was the last wicket. Late excitement at the Marigot court! Tomy Adolph, batting from ball one took a single from the first ball to expose the nervous looking Johan Stephen. Ball number two saw Johan Stephen hit the ball upwards in the direction of fielder Shadly James for a dolly catch; to the surprise of players and spectators, Shadly put down the catch (butter fingers). It was so easy a caveman would safely grab with his eyes closed; that was not all he then threw the ball in no man’s land as if he had seen a ghost. A decision which cost his team 3 runs.

Two runs needed from two balls. Johan Stephen on strike he wiggles his body, in comes Ricky to bowl…… the LUCELEC Club is inviting all staff members to the Marigot Court on game nights to be part of the euphoria. This level of excitement is soothing, stress relieving and of course rated E for everyone. Now back to the game……. Johan hits the ball in the air yet again, this time in the direction of Kirton Emmanuel who throws a hand at it (wrong hand, smh) completely missing the ball and just like that game over.

TnD Lightning Strikers won the game with one ball to spare. A disappointing performance from the Pandemic who ironically could not catch a flu! Embarrassingly, the Pandemic may have infected themselves with their own disease.

Tomy Adolph was the Man of the Match for his 29 runs not out.

Game 3 Generation Power House vs Customer Service Kool & the Gang

The fun and the excitement continued all the way to the end of this game. Many saw the Gang’s win against Triple W Old Navy the previous night as a fluke and saw Generation Power House as clear favourites for this game.

Customer Service Kool & the Gang won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Nigel Leonce continuing with the same luck in the previous game, took two wickets in the first over. Generation Power House had no answer to the slow accurate bowling of Customer Service as their wickets fell similarly (clean bowled, all stumps on the ground). The carnival started from the first over, this Customer Service team for a second night in a row turned their opponent’s supporters against them (Generation Power House supporters were now supporting Customer Service).

Generation Power House were bowled out at the end of the 5th over for 67 runs. Sanjay Pamphile and Jerome King were the only batters to cross double figures, 13 and 10 runs scored respectively.

Shell Shocked, the Power House kept calm despite losing all their supporters to their opponents. Men love being dominant; “most” things women do, men “believe” they can do better (please don’t crucify me, this report is for entertainment purposes). Why would I make such a contentious statement? Let us find out.

It was Customer Service time at the crease. The first over was about to be bowled. We now have a new king of wides! Emma Edgar early in this tournament held the record for most wides in one over, 13 wides. Jerome King from Generation Power House came in to bowl the first over and before bowling one legal delivery bowled 9 consecutive wides. From our rule book a wide is two extra runs which meant that Customer Service Kool and the Gang were 18 runs without a legal ball being bowled chasing 68 runs for victory from 10 overs.

With every wide bowled, Generation Power House player faces showed signs of severe constipation (stay hydrated guys, its Health and Safety Month). One Power House supporter who now abandoned her team and supports the Gang, remixed the late Dame Sesenne Descartes Song “Manmay-la di WIDE… WIDE di WIDE Accord” to the amusement of the supporters this new wide song will be the next cultural hit song.

Jerome bowled a mind blowing 18 wides in the first over to de-thrown Emma Edgar. Jerome King is now the King of wides (it’s the King for me). At the end of the first over the score was 37 runs without loss.

31 runs were needed from 9 overs, self-inflicting wounds broke the Generation Power House player’s hearts like a pack of peanuts. The wides continued in the second over, as the Gang edged closer to their target.

In 3.2 overs, Generation Power House were decimated. Customer Service Kool and the Gang proved that their win was no fluke.

Kurtly Estava was judged man on the match for his brilliant catch, one wicket and 11 runs scored with the bat.
