One Love. One Heart. One Destiny. One LUCELEC!

One Love. One Heart. One LUCELEC.

On February 15, 2024, there was a natural mystic and positive vibration as the LUCELEC Club, in collaboration with HRD and CCD, hosted a special event that celebrated unity, music, and the indomitable spirit of Reggae music icon Bob Marley.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, team members began to gather for the pre-show mix and mingle. Reggae music, synonymous with Marley's legacy, played in the background, setting a relaxed and joyful tone. Colleagues, some of whom only interacted in formal settings, found themselves in an environment that encouraged camaraderie and warmth.

The mix and mingle event was delightful, with delectable finger food and complimentary drinks flowing during the "Happy Hour". Some of us swayed to the rhythm of the music; some even sang along to the legendary lyrics, evoking laughter for biting the tongue and applause for hitting the mark. This setting allowed team members to connect personally for a change, away from the demands and bustle of work routines and schedules, breaking down barriers and strengthening bonds.

Everyone collected their snack tray as we moved to the theatre, and the operator turned the lights down low as we settled into our seats. "One Love" blended drama and documentary, depicting part of Marley's journey from a humble beginning in the streets of Trenchtown, Jamaica, to becoming a global music phenomenon. It highlighted his struggles, relentless dedication to his craft, profound belief in the Rastafarian way of life, and love story with his wife, Rita.

The movie seamlessly wove through Bob's iconic songs, each carrying a message that resonated with us somehow or from some time. The segments from his legendary concerts provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse of his life and the challenges he faced, including an assassination attempt and his fight against cancer.

For some of us, the movie left us wanting more regarding Marley's huge repertoire. Still, any biopic on Marley would inevitably fail to provide proper justice. The film not only offered an insight into Marley's life but also served as a reminder of the power of music to unite people across different backgrounds. Many who attended expressed how the experience gave them a refreshing perspective on Marley's contributions to music and the world. We hope the outing achieved its objective of uniting us under the banner of "ONE LOVE, ONE HEART, ONE DESTINY!" We hope it will inspire you to check on each other, and we are encouraged by your feedback for more engagement activities soon.
