Embracing Opportunities and Building Bridges

A Recap of Our Strategy Retreat

Following the conclusion of our Strategy Division Retreat in January, I firmly believe that we are on a path of growth, empowerment, and collaboration, not just within our division but across the entire Company.

Our Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Ian Peter, set the tone for the day with a powerful message about the importance of embracing opportunities and building bridges within our organization.

He emphasized the significance of empowerment and development, highlighting that our strategy is not just about top-down communication but also about hearing from each of you. "We want to hear from you. When discussing building bridges and teamwork, I think that's one of our values. As a team, we need to be hearing from each other," Ian affirmed.

One key takeaway from Ian's welcome remarks was the importance of recognizing and nurturing hidden talents within the Division and LUCELEC as a whole. "We have a wealth of hidden talents within our organization, and it's crucial to seize every opportunity to showcase our skills and contribute to our collective success," Ian said. You may not realize it, but when you do, it registers in our minds as leaders. And when opportunities come up, you automatically rise to the top in your mind.

This feeds directly into our strategy map, where we focus on empowerment and development as key enablers.

Ian also highlighted some of our strategy map's enablers, processes, and outcomes. He mentioned the importance of accountability, efficiency, and excellence as core values that drive our strategic initiatives. "Think about today's session as an opportunity to set the tone for 2025," Ian said. "I feel a lot of good energy in this room. It's an exciting time".

Brian Houson appreciated the interaction and feedback, noting, "It was great. There was a ton of interaction, feedback, and team building. And I think what I'm taking away from this is that we have an incredible team that can take us through 2025 and beyond."

Joanne Husbands highlighted the importance of learning and improvement, saying, "It was a day of learning, a day of seeing where we are at current and what we need to improve on in 2025. So I'm happy regarding our plans, and as a team, we aim to strive but thrive while striving".

Team building their bridge

During the retreat, team members presented a recap of their 2024 work programmes, and shared insights on the their 2025 strategy maps, balanced scorecards and work programmes. It was not all work, as division members engaged in fun and educational team building activities.

As we move forward, there are some key take-a-ways from our retreat:

  • Embrace every opportunity to develop and grow.
  • Foster open communication and teamwork.
  • Set the tone for a successful year by working together and supporting each other.

Together, we can achieve great things. Let's continue to build bridges, empower one another, and strive for excellence in everything we do.

Let's make 2025 our best year yet!
